What I say equals what you think, but doesn’t
One of the more frustrating things in this world is when things that are said in business or social arenas aren’t what the person or entities actually directly mean, but are meant to direct you to a certain way of thinking that they can’t come right out and say. Usually this is done with a wink, since saying outright the actual deeper meaning they are trying to convey would be impolite (or against the law). This can also be seen in how policies get put in place–an example is Apple’s current policy that all code developed for the iPhone needs to be written directly in it’s OS language, not through a cross-code compiler. They say this is to insure that coding is done at a quality level that fits the iPhone, their real reason is “We’re number 1 bitch, and you’ll support us first and as the primary platform you work on and not as some place to port other work to”. Luckily we do write all of our app stuff directly for the iPhone, but this is a major blow to people who don’t know Objective C but might know a different programming language.
In today’s comic though, the underlying meaning is even more basic…and regal.
